Although the Ground Pounder Club is ROAR sanctioned, and all racers must be ROAR members to race, we do have Club Rules that we enforce at our events.
CLASS RULES:
Batteries: Depending on the class, any ROAR approved six (6) cell, or four (4) cell, NiCAD, NiMH or 3.7v and 7.4v Lpio battery packs, may be used. Batteries must be readily available to all racers. LiPo’s will be allowed in some classes. Only Roar approved, hard cased, LiPo’s will be allowed. Racers are responsible for the proper handling, charging, and running of their batteries. All Lipo’s must be charged in a “LiPo Sack” and must not exceed 8.45 volts after charging. For more info, and approval lists, please see Roar’s webpage www.roarracing.com
Bodies: All lexan car and truck bodies must be painted to be raced.
Rebuildable stock motors: These motors have 27 turns, 24 degrees of timing, removable endbells and may be opened for cleaning and maintenance. Armatures must be tagged. No hand wound armatures. No bearings. No modifying motor components (endbell, can, armature, magnet location, etc…). No mix and matching of endbells, cans, magnets, or armatures. Quad magnet motors ok.
Brushless motors: Brushless motors will be allowed in a some classes (see class rules). They must be Roar approved and on the most current Roar list. No homemade parts may be added. No tampering with, or modifying the motors, inside or out. (Aside from adding a heatsink, or removing the ring)
Minimum class size: It takes four (4) or more cars to make a class and only classes which are on the flier will be raced (call, or check the GP website, with any questions regarding which classes will be run). Unless otherwise noted, all race times are four (4) minutes in length.
Novice Electric Road Course and Novice Electric Oval Classes: These classes are for beginning R/C Racers, most everyone will begin their racing career in a Novice Class. No matter what type of car or truck you have, Novice Classes race them all together. (There are classes for Nitro and Electric) Novice Road Course will race the on-road track and Novice Oval will race on the Oval track. After a driver becomes better at controlling his or her vehicle, they will be moved out of this class and into a regular stock class for their car or truck. The Race Director has the final word on who can or cannot move up. Novice Class runs six cell batteries, or LiPo, stock motors or BL 17.5, and has 4 minute Heats and Mains.
Speed is not the issue in any Novice Class. Learning to drive a car or truck competitively on the race track, during a race, is what you should be after. Learning to have good control over your vehicle is a must in racing and a Novice Class is the most forgiving place to learn it. If you have any problems or questions, don't hesitate to ask other racers or the Race Director.
Novice Nitro On-Road: This class is for beginning Nitro Sedan Racers. All rules apply for both classes (Rubber Tire Nitro Sedan and Nitro Foam Tire Sedan). All cars must have a working throttle return spring. Racers will be moved up a class when their ability allows. Race Director has the final say. (Road Course. 4 minute Heats and Mains. Novice Racers.)
1/12 Scale On-Road: This class is for cars like the 12L, or other solid-axle 1/12 pan cars. New for 2010, only 17.5 brushless motors and single cell Lipo's will be run. Foam or rubber tires. GTP and WSC bodies preferred. (Road Course. 8 minute Heats and Mains. Advanced Sportsman and Expert Racers)
17.5 Sedan: This class is for the newer Sedan drivers, giving them a class to race in while gaining track time and experience before moving up to next level. The class uses car like Tamiya, Team Losi, or Team Associated 4wd sedans (No home-built's). Off the shelf upgrades are allowed. Rubber tires only, No foam tires. Only LiPos and 17.5 brushless motors allowed. Cars must meet the Roar minimum weight to be allowed to race (1420grams) (Road Course, 5 minute Heats and Mains. Sportsman and Expert Racers)
Expert 13.5 Sedans: Same basic rules as Sportsman Stock Sedan, with a few changes. Only 13.5 brushless motors and Lipo batteries are allowed. Cars must meet the Roar minimum weight to be allowed to race (1420grams). (Road Course, 5 minute Heats and Mains. Advanced Sportsman and Expert Racers)
Nitro Sedans: This class is for cars like the Mugen MTX-4, or N-TC3, any production nitro sedan (no home built cars). All cars must have a working throttle return spring. 12 size motors only (absolutely no big block 15’s). Two speeds are ok. Foam tires only, maximum tire width 30mm. No CVEC pipes. Off the shelf upgrades are ok. 200mm 4wd Sedans only. No GTP or Lola style bodies. (Road Course, 5 minutes Heats and Mains. Advanced Sportsman and Expert Racers)
Formula 1: Any and all 1/10th scale open wheel, single seater chassis using the Tamiya 504-J silver can motor will be allowed. NO OTHER SILVER CAN MOTORS ALLOWED! This is pretty much the only hard and flat rule for this class. Don't mess around!
LiPos (single or 2 cell) and foam tires allowed as well.
The Tamiya F103 and it's variants, F104 and it's variants, F201, the Corrally F1, any HPI F1, and older chassis, or anything home built will allowed.
As long as it looks like a Formula car from any series past or present, (F1, Indy, CART, Champ Car, A1GP, GP2, F2, F3, Formula Renault, Atlantics, Indy Lights, Star Mazda, Formula BMW, etc), then it'll be allowed. The race director will use a reasonable man standard in determining if the car passes the scale looks requirement.
If you have any concerns, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you send a picture of your chassis in for approval BEFORE you show up to race it.
This class should be about scale looks, ingenuity, sportsmanship, and fun exciting racing. In that essence, if a chassis or equipment configuration allows a racer to overwhelmingly dominate a field based on something other than driving ability, that chassis or equipment configuration will be disallowed after two races with the initial race used counting as one of the allowed two. The finishing position of the chassis in question will be unchanged for both allowed races. This system rewards ingenuity, while maintaining an exciting, close field. Again, a reasonable man standard will be in place.
Google BAR torque transfer systems or Renault Mass Dampers if you question where the inspiration for this type of regulating comes from.
Furthermore, a motor claim rule for the Tamiya 504-J silver can will be in effect. Any F1 motor can be purchased from any fellow F1 racer after the A-Main event for $17.
Slash Class: This class is for the Traxxas Slash trucks. It’s a Spec-style class, aimed at keeping costs down, making it more of a drivers class. The Slash must be kept box stock, aside from these changes: You may change the transmitter and receiver. You may use either of the two pinion gears that come in the box. You may change shock oil and bottom shock mounting location (in the stock holes only). You may use an aftermarket Slash style body, painted as you see fit. You may service the diff with your choice of fluids. You may use a 6 cell battery or a 7.4v LiPo. Races will be on the road course track, with jumps and other obstacles. (length is up to the Race Director. Sportsman and Expert Racers.)
Please note: This is a buy-out class. As a way of keeping everyone honest and having fun, there’s a $200 buy-out option. $200 gets you anyone's Slash minus body, TX & Rx, and battery.
Short Course Truck: This class is for all MFG's 2wd Short Course Trucks
(SCT). Hop up parts may be used, but must be readily available to all racers. Any SCT body may be run. Any MFG tires and rims may be run. 17.5 brushless motors, or original stock motor and ESC may be run. 6 Cell battery, or 7.4v Lipos may be run. Bumpers and skid plates must be made of plastic, aluminium parts in those locations will not be allowed.
